Recording American Fork, one person at a time

Decoration Day

Children, please
Look up from your screens
The video games and texting machines
There's not many left like your gandfather's dad
Or even the worst from the best we've had
Is it another wasted holiday?
Decoration day

There once was a time
When humanity stood
and each kind of freedom
was paid for with blood
They gave all that they had,
Much more than we would
Trading their lives for the common good
Pick a headstone for your bouquet
on Decoration Day

The wind dies down
The flag falls still
A generation rests on its unbroken will
So tell me now, is it worth a parade
To remember a time when heros were made
In a foxhole, far away
On Decoration Day
